About GFIC Crew (GFIC歪果社)

GFIC Crew (GFIC歪果社) is a growing real-life social community for expats in China. Founded by passionate locals who know every corner of this country, we are dedicated to helping global friends live a fun, connected, and hassle-free life here. We are currently active in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and other cities, and we organize regular real-world events — themed parties, food crawls, sports leagues, hikes, cultural workshops, language exchanges, and weekend getaways. No lonely expat life here. This is your crew.

Who this is for

Newly arrived expats

Your first month in China is the hardest: SIM card, bank account, WeChat Pay, rental deposit, residence permit. The crew compresses that learning curve from months to weeks.

Long-term residents

You know the systems but the social circle has thinned out. Regular events and a rotating cast of newcomers keep the city interesting again.

Planning a move to China

Join before you land. Ask the city group about districts, salaries, schools and contracts, and arrive with people already expecting you.

Globally-minded locals

Chinese members who want genuine international friendships, language practice and a non-commercial space are welcome.

Our four services

Daily Crew Communication

Online groups and forums that act as the go-to lifeline for expat daily life in China — housing, healthcare, banking, mobile payments and everything in between.

  • Healthcare: international clinics and health insurance
  • Housing: apartment hunting and lease negotiation
  • Banking and mobile payments: setting up WeChat Pay and Alipay
  • Driving licence conversion and pet relocation

Chinese Language Exchange and Learning

Break the language barrier with language exchange meetups, survival Chinese crash courses, HSK preparation groups and Chinese corner events.

  • Language exchange meetups with tandem partners
  • Survival Chinese crash courses for daily life
  • HSK preparation groups
  • Chinese corner events
  • Mandarin and Cantonese practice in a supportive environment

Organization of Social Activities

An event calendar designed to help you connect, explore and thrive — from pub crawls and potlucks to badminton leagues and weekend camping.

  • Themed social gatherings: international potlucks, pub crawls, board game nights, festive holiday parties
  • Sports and fitness socials: badminton, football, basketball, cycling, yoga, city hikes
  • Food exploration: street food walks, hotpot feasts, dumpling-making classes, craft beer tastings, regional cuisine tours
  • Outdoor adventures: weekend camping, Great Wall trekking, river tracing, rural cycling trips
  • Member-driven meetups: coffee chats, photography walks, book clubs and more

Cultural Experience Activities

Dive deep into Chinese heritage with your crew — calligraphy, tea ceremonies, tai chi, Mahjong nights and guided tours well beyond the tourist path.

  • Calligraphy and ink painting workshops
  • Traditional tea ceremonies
  • Tai chi and kung fu introductions
  • Mahjong learning nights
  • Guided museum and historical neighbourhood tours
  • Regional immersions: Suzhou water towns, Yunnan minority festivals, lantern festivals and temple fairs
